Uninsured Motorist Coverage With Stacking

One of the most important automobile coverages you should buy is “Uninsured Motorist Coverage”. This coverage protects you in case the person who caused the accident does not have liability coverage. In Florida, drivers are not required to purchase Liability Coverage. So, if a person causes an accident who has no insurance and causes you injury, you would not be compensated for your injuries unless you bought Uninsured Motorist Coverage.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage is coverage you buy to protect yourself. For example, if someone else caused the accident and did not have insurance, you would not be able to collect for your injuries unless you bought Uninsured Motorist Coverage.

Florida Law requires insurance companies to offer Uninsured Motorist coverage to you when you purchase Liability Coverage. Liability Coverage protects you if you cause the accident and injure the other person. Uninsured Motorist

Coverage protects you if the other person causes the accident but did not buy Liability Coverage. It is important to purchase Liability and Uninsured Motorist Coverage so you can be compensated if you are involved in an accident.

In Florida, you can purchase “Stacked Uninsured Motorist” coverage. “Stacked” coverage allows you to multiply the coverage limits on your policy times the number of vehicles in your household for the total policy limits. For instance, if you and your spouse have two cars and insure them on the same policy, and you purchase $100,000 in Liability and Uninsured Motorist Coverage, your total Uninsured Motorist coverage for your injuries from an accident caused by the uninsured motorist would be $200,000.

Florida Uninsured Motorist Coverage is added to the Liability coverage of the at fault driver. For instance, if the at fault driver bought $25,000 Liability Coverage, and you purchased stacked Uninsured Motorist Coverage for $25,000 with two cars in the household, your total coverage for your injuries and damages would be:

          $25,000 Liability Coverage

          $50,000 Uninsured Motorist Coverage

          $75,000 Total Coverage

Car accidents can leave you with unpaid car expenses, unpaid medical bills, lost work and income, permanent injuries and permanent medical problems. In order to help protect yourself from these sometimes catastrophic damages, you should purchase Stacked Uninsured Motorist Coverage.
