Webinar for Attorneys on Hospital Acquired Infections

Hospital Acquired Infections are in the news more and more often, and patients need to know their rights. On October 10, 2013, a webinar presented by Gloria Seidule delved into the history of antibiotic resistant bacteria, the spread of nosocomial infections, the Standard of Care for preventing nosocomial infections and the emergence of new antibiotic resistant infections that are resistant to all currently known antibiotics. This presentation was aimed at informing attorneys of the latest trends regarding Hospital Acquired Infections and associated litigation.

The webinar was sponsored by The American Bar Association Health Law Section and Center for Professional Development.

Despite numerous public health initiatives, multidrug-resistant bacteria and pathogens have become increasingly prevalent in the U.S., resulting in substantial legal and compliance costs to medical providers. Hospitals and other entities are devoting substantial resources to address legal claims arising from provider acquired infections, mitigate risk of future occurrences, and address federal efforts to stem this growing problem.

In this program, our panelists will provide a practical background on infections acquired by patients during routine medical care, surgeries, and from medical devices, as well as the legal implications to an entity resulting from such infections… Finally, current litigation trends and corresponding efforts to mitigate risk will be addressed.

More information on the webinar can be found at The American Bar Association website.
