As a lawyer in the State of Florida, I took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States of America. I call on every lawyer in Florida, and in the United States, to do what is right, regardless of whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, and support the Constitution by requiring the losing side in the Presidential election to move aside, stand down, leave the office and allow the peaceable transition of power.
It is November 11, 2020, we are in the worst days of the pandemic thus far, Joe Biden won the popular vote and the electoral votes, and the former president refuses to leave office. Former President Trump , in the waning days of his presidency until Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2021, is taking over the military and Department of Defense. This is the move of a dictator. Ask yourself, why is he trying to take control of the nation’s military?
Even if you voted for the former President, even if you are a Republican, even if you believe Trump won the popular and electoral vote, the majority of Americans believe Biden is the President elect. We cannot support the United States Constitution by allowing this country to be taken over by a person who was not elected by the majority of the people and the electoral college. This is the very definition of a dictatorship.
Lawyers are the last line of defense in this election. I swore, under oath, when I became a lawyer that
“I will not counsel or maintain any suit or proceedings which shall appear to me to be unjust , nor any defense except such as I believe to be honestly debatable under the law of the land.”
I ask all lawyers in this country, regardless of your political affiliation, to do what is right — defend our United States Constitution.
