Vaccines Save Lives
Vaccines have saved countless lives for decades. Whether it’s small pox, polio, whooping cough or measles, vaccines have reduced the number of people infected to almost zero. But as anti-vaxxers choosing not to have their children get these important shots continue to grow in number and get more vocal, trouble is brewing. These parents believe that vaccinations are a “human rights violation.”
There Are More Kids with Measles
Measles is Exhibit A. Certain parts of the country are reeling under the rapid increase in the number of children getting the potentially-life threatening disease because parents fear the vaccination. Measles is one of the most contagious respiratory diseases in the world that has the potential to be life-threatening. It is caused by a virus and is still common in many countries.
No Scientific Connection Between Vaccinations and Autism
In spite of the fact there has never been scientific or medical proof that there is a connection between early childhood vaccination and autism, some remain 100% convinced that there is a legitimate risk. Certain religions and belief systems promote alternative perspectives toward vaccination. Although we don’t have the space to explore them in depth, religious objections to vaccines are based generally on (1) ethical dilemmas associated with using human tissue cells to create vaccines, and (2) beliefs that the body is sacred, should not receive certain chemicals or blood or tissues from animals, and should be healed by God or natural means. The problem is that these decisions affect you …. and your child. Unless your youngsters are up-to-date on their shots, coming in contact with the child of a non-vaxxer exposes them to the disease – and a possible bout themselves. We all cherish the right to make our own decisions on how to raise our children but things get dicey when those decisions impact the general population.
